I had seen some YouTube videos on shooting glass and that provoked me to do this shoot.
Results
Lets start with some results.
Ingredients
- Camera - Canon 450D (any SLR or a camera with a hot shoe would do)
- Flash - Nikon SB-28 (or any similar flash)
- Another flash - Nikon SB-28 with a DIY grid spot
- Remote trigger - eBay poverty wizards
- Backdrop - white chart paper on a support
- Black surroundings - I used a Lowepro bag and a collapsible softbox.
- Stage - I used a black box
- Tripods - Will discuss it later, but one is definitely needed.
- Thin sheet of transparent plastic (in lieu of a sheet of glass)
Setup shots
I first share photos of the individual components.
This shot shows two boxes I used for this shot. Both were picked up from my local superstores for free. They anyways are going to throw them and keep them for patrons to pck up items in.
The one on the left was used for the backdrop. The other one was used as the base. It helped me to place the main flash below the box.
This is the backdrop. The first box stands on itself (one reason for shoosing it) and then the sheet of white paper. In some shots, I held the top of the white paper with my hands, putting the camera on a 10 second shutter delay. That helped me getting the distribution of light even on the sheet.
